Laugh Basement, our weekly stand-up comedy showcase hosted by Hewitt Pagenstecher and DJ Bholt, is back with headliner Riley McCarthy! Riley McCarthy (they/them) is a stand up comic and writer from the great state of Wisconsin. They have been voted one of Willamette Week’s Funniest 5 comics in Portland, have taken second place in Helium Comedy Clubs Portland’s Funniest Person Contest, and been named one of Portland Mercury’s Undisputed Geniuses Of Comedy. Riley is a cast member on Hell Bound To Clown and Magic Tea Party- the PNW’s longest running d&d comedy show. Their comedic essays can be read in The Portland Mercury and they have performed at clubs and festivals across the country. In 1988, Riley came out of retirement to coach a group of distance runners to become Jamaica’s first Olympic bobsled team.
