andyvanoverberghe - Drawing is my own personal meditation. It is a documentation of my own mental therapy and evolutionary catalogue of growth and adaptation. The act of drawing is meditation. Disciplines, studies, inspirations, and interests from a wide variety of philosophies, spiritualities, myths, religions, and fantasies fuse in a harmony of my creative process. Each element is a symbol or representation of an idea. All systems are formulas for greater truths. Like cogs on gears all lines work together to form patterns. Visual patterns mimic patterns of nature and of thought.  Free flowing ideas with regard to strict disciplines while allowing loose line work. A gathering of lines to reflect images are simple forms of highly complex ideals. Like atoms forming matter. Lines forming patterns. Patterns forming texture. Each piece tells a story. Every story has a truth or truths. Every truth has life. Every life has breathe. Giving life to things which have not life. I am often asked where my inspiration comes from. My art comes from my subconscious. I take the random organic texture of wood grain and draw into it using my experience and imagination to sculpt an illusion of a life or story. Throughout my life different artists, writers, musicians, directors, models, friends, and family have bit by bit, consciously and subconsciously, taught me into creation of the art I create. I am the dictator, director, and creator of my own thoughts and philosophies but each of these figures, at one point or another, have had a significant directional influence in the development of my thoughts, philosophies, and arts. I, and my art, am a product of Patrick Rothfuss, Edgar Allen Poe, Alexandre Dumas, J.R.R. Tolkien, Neil Gaiman, Todd MacFarlane, Stan Lee, Michael Turner, Bill Watterson, Bill Amend, The Brothers Quay, H.R. Giger, M.C.Escher, Alex Grey, Yoshitaka Amano, Kate Lambert, Amanda Pemberton, Johnny Depp, Nobuo Uematsu, Ludovico Einaudi, Maynard James Keenan, Adam Jones, Rob Zombie, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Darren Aronofsky, Robert Rodriguez, Ridley Scott, Tim Burton, Bill Hicks, George Carllin, Dennis Drummond, Julia Statzer, Evan Modzelewski, and for better and worse my family.
