The Goodfoot will have an art opening on Last Thurs, Jan 25th, from 5-11pm. The show will have various styles, but all based in collage. The artists are Edward Story, Israel Hughes, Luke Dolkas, Lori Olds, and Tim Livingston.
Edward Story’s (pictured) work is about images and disjointed fragments. He uses collage in combination with other techniques to change and disrupt the usual meaning or “reading” associated with certain imagery. He’s lived in Portland since 1999 and have shown locally since then. He has work in private collections as well as some public venues.
Israel Hughes, studied art at the San Francisco Art Institue, Cornish School of Fine Arts in Seattle, and received a degree in Art Education at Western Oregon State College. His collages have been exhibited nationally and internationally, and his works are in two public collections. Israel’s approach to collage is using juxtaposition and multiplications of layers to guide the viewer’s attention towards building a visual map of the constantly changing environment of the urban landscape and the alientation the individual experiences.
Luke Dolkas has been a living artist for twelve years, over ten of which have been right here in Portland, Oregon. He works primarily in mixed-media, collage, painting, and drawing--however he has been seen taking photographs, experimenting with printmaking, and fooling around with assemblage. “My work has a dazzling sense of nothingness, mixed with a dash of irony and nostalgia”.
Lori Olds has been doing collage of some sort for about 8 years now. What started out as crafty fun eventually evolved into a sort of embellished/mixed media style of collage and then became more refined using only paper and getting more involved with layering and use of lighting, texture, tone and color to create as seamless of an image as possible. The goal being that it should look like it was meant to be it’s own image before she cut things up to create it. If you can’t figure out where the separate pieces begin and end, then she feels she has done a good job as far as how she crafted it, and she loves that challenge - which is much like putting together a puzzle, but without the picture on the box to guide you.
Tim Livingston aka fog vs. fist was born in ohio, and raised in California, he died in Oregon and was reborn in the West Indies.
