Excavations: A Visual Archaeology
Featuring Kindra Crick, Frederick Swan, Karl Kaiser and Brian Gray

“To excavate is to open a book written in the language that the centuries have spoken into the earth.” ? Spyridon Marinatos

This exhibition brings together four Portland artists who create layered work of evocative depths, three of thiese artists using encaustic as part of their painting process, the other in ceramics. With most paintings and sculpture, the top surface is often the only surface; these artists cut, scrape and carve to reveal complex and textured histories.
