This month’s show will be a group photography show. The artists are Casey Rae, Craig Maynard Scott, Gordon Wilson, Jeff T. Smith, Lyla Emery Reno & Tim McMurrin.. Casey Rae. Photography is documentation. It is a witness to a moment of my life. I use it as an opportunity to tell a story, to express an emotion. I love the exactness of an unmanipulated image. The camera captures a moment that is hidden to me. When I release the shutter the mirror is raised and blocks my view. It is that split second that I am always surprised to find and happy to share. I chose these images to represent different times in my life when I found beauty in the simplest things. My first camera was a gift for my 7th birthday. I received my degree in Environmental Photojournalism from The Photography Institute at Lansing Community College. I believe that all art is subjective and its true purpose is to evoke a reaction.
Craig Maynard Scott. This collection of photographs is from the summer of 2004. I traveled to Leh, Ladakh, for a traditional Ladakhi wedding, the Hemis festival and several ancient monasteries in the Indus River valley. I later ventured through the Indian subcontinent as far as Varanasi, on the river Ganges. I was not seeking, nor did I find, religious enlightenment. I was nonetheless endlessly fascinated by the rituals and cultures I was exposed to on this journey. I also spun a bunch of prayer wheels because agnosticism is seriously lacking in good rituals. Vintage gear and natural film processes inspire my photography. My father returned from his military stint in Korea in 1959 with an early Japanese rangefinder and twin reflex camera, and these are the cameras I learned to use and continue to have an affinity for . I was born and raised in Utah, and have lived in the Northwest since 1991. I have a BA. from Lewis & Clark in International Affairs.

Lyla Emery Reno is a fine art & freelance photographer born in 1974 on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. Now a successful photographer in her own right, her work regularly appears in galleries and is published in a wide range of media from magazines and newpapers to CD covers and books. Lyla currently lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband Jesse Reno and their dog, Buddy. Lyla rediscovered biking after moving to Portland two years ago. Events such as the Chunkathalon and Pedalpalooza have allowed her to combine these passions as both participant and photographer.
Tim McMurrin is your typical Portland blue-collar dilettante, show in addition to playing in a couple of local bands, (Bastinado & Brindle) also enjoys taking lots of pictures. Photography’s appeal to him in the way it enables you to revisit those particular perspectives that often pass too quickly. His influences include the Minutemen, Rickenbacker basses, Pinball, and the Outlaw Josie Wales.
