John Graeter

I am inspired from looking out my window and seeing a grey squirrel eating a banana peel mayonnaise torpedo on a neighbors front porch with a tow truck on fire across the street. I use mostly Sumi Ink and Acrylic for mediums. I've been known to use phones, shoes, shorts, brooms, yarn, lint, toy horses, exhaust pipes, vinyl records, dildos and old garden gloves as media. I paint on found objects, recycled doors, wood or recycled trash to create 2-D or 3-D Dadaist combines and meta-linguistic reflections about the world around and inside of me. In my art, I explore metaphysical realms and relations of the ideas of spoken and written language. You could say much of my work is meta-painting, or paintings about the act of painting while painting words and language about painting. You could also say it is meta-art, or an expression about the act of creating art and writing together. Are they words? Letters? Breasts? wild Dada banter? Look close! Heads up! Avast!!!
