9 Ball Tournament

Format

Matches are set up on a double elimination bracket in which player placement is randomly determined. The rules of play follow a slightly modified* version of the standard BCA 9-ball rules. Typically, each individual match consists of one race to 3 on the ‘winner’ side of the bracket and one race to 2 on the ‘loser’ side of the bracket. Each participant is guaranteed at least five games total. *(Modifications include: lag or coin-flip to determine the first break with subsequent alternation of break throughout the remainder of the match. No loss-of-game penalty for excessive fouls.)

Entry

The entry fee for this tournament is $5. Matches begin promplty at 7:30. Interested players should arrive, sign in, and pay no later than 7:15. Late comers will not be allowed to participate. (Exception: in the case of the existence of one or more ‘byes’ on the bracket, late arrivals will be permitted to enter the tournament only before the completion of the first scheduled match.)

Prize Pay-out

The prize pays out 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The amount payed to each place is dertermined by a range of percentages of the entire entry fee pool. Percentages are determined in direct relation to the number of participants. Typically, the prize for 1st place is quite generous (often up to 60%-70% of the entry fee pool). 2nd place is often double the entry fee. And, 3rd place will often pay ‘money back’. In the case of low turnout, 3rd place will not be awarded a cash payout from the entry fee pool, but instead will receive one free call at the bar.

This is a fun relaxed tournament. The level of competition fits well with any skill level – anyone can and should play! Since we are provided only three of four tables, it is imperative that the tournament begin on time. The sooner we start the earlier we finish; it is Sunday after all! So, please come on down and take a shot at the big prize!
